    Beth Mead Facts

    1. She started her youth career in soccer with California Girls FC before moving to Middlesbrough F.C.‘s Centre of Excellence at the age of just 10. She was with Middlesbrough from 2005 to 2011.
    2. Beth moved to Sunderland A.F.C. Ladies in 2011 at the age of 16. The team was a part of the FA Women’s National League (tier 3 and tier 4 of England’s football pyramid for women) at that time and Beth was a star for them scoring 23 goals in 23 games in the league and 29 goals in all competitions. She scored another 30 goals in 28 matches in the following season.
    3. In the 2014 season of the FA WSL (Women’s Super League), her 15 goals helped Sunderland to gain promotion to the WSL 1, the top-tier of English Women’s soccer.
    4. Beth turned professional as a consequence of Sunderland’s promotion to the WSL 1 but she continued to complete the final year of her university courses. She also worked as a barmaid at a local pub during the soccer off-season as a token of gratitude to the pub owners who had sponsored her career till then.
    5. In her very first match as a professional in 2015, Beth scored a goal in Sunderland’s 2–1 upset of defending champions, Liverpool. She also scored a hat-trick against table-toppers Chelsea in that season and won the ‘Golden Boot’ award for being the WSL 1‘s top goalscorer with 12 goals in 14 games.
    6. In July 2015, she had a miraculous escape after being involved in a freak accident. She was trying to avoid a deer on the road due to which she lost control of her car and it rolled over 3 times. Fortunately, she escaped without any major injury.

    8. Beth signed with Arsenal W.F.C. in January 2017 but had to give up her preferred position as a striker as Arsenal already had a roster teeming with attacking players. However, her positional change as a winger did not hinder her performance too much as she scored in both the quarterfinal and semifinal of the 2017–18 FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup which Arsenal eventually won.
    9. She was the leading goalscorer for Arsenal (8 goals) in the 2017–18 season and was voted Arsenal’s ‘Player of the Season’.
