    Brandon King Facts

    1. Brandon uses the number ’53’ on the back of his shirt for his international, domestic, and franchise teams to honor his cricketing idol Ramnaresh Sarwan who represented the West Indies with distinction in 87 test matches, 181 ODIs, and 18 T20Is between 2000 and 2013. Just like Brandon, he had also represented the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL – for a few matches between 2013 and 2014, at the fag end of his career.
    2. Brandon first came into the spotlight in October 2019 when he smoked 132 runs not out (including 10 fours and 11 sixes) off just 72 balls in Guyana Amazon Warriors‘ 30-run win over the Barbados Tridents in the 1st qualifier of the 2019 edition of the CPL. It was not just his maiden ton in T20 cricket, it was also the then highest individual score in the history of the tournament.
    3. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance and this win had taken the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ winning streak to 11 games (10 wins out of 10 in the group stage of this tournament followed by this first qualifier). The winning streak was brought to an end in their next match, the final, by the Barbados Tridents who had reached there by winning the 2nd qualifier. The defeat continued the ‘always a bridesmaid, never the bride’ trend for the Guyana Amazon Warriors as the franchise had reached the final match of the CPL for the 5th time out of the 7 seasons that had been played until then; losing the final on each occasion.
    4. Brandon was his team’s top run-scorer in that final as well with 43 runs off 33 balls but was unable to prevent a 27 run-defeat. He finished the season as the tournament’s highest run-getter with 496 runs (1 hundred, 3 fifties, 44 fours, and 32 sixes) in 12 matches at a spectacular average of 55.11 runs per inning and a terrific strike rate of 148.94 runs scored per 100 balls.
    5. For his performances that season, he was included in ESPN Cricinfo‘s ‘Team of the Tournament’. He also had the maximum batting impact (662.58; an average impact rating of 55.215 per match) in that season of the CPL as per ESPN Cricinfo. Brandon had primarily played as a middle-order batter in his career until then but was pushed to the top of the batting order in his very first season for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, a move that turned out to be career-changing for him.
    6. In June 2026, he saved the West Indies from tremendous embarrassment when he scored 91 runs not out off 90 balls in a 5-wicket win over the lowly Netherlands. In the 2nd match of a 3-match bilateral away ODI series against the Netherlands, the West Indies were struggling at 48/3 in the 13th over when Brandon came into bat. The team would slump further to 99/5 in the 24th over in their modest chase of a 215-run target before he and youngster put together an unbeaten 118-run partnership to guide the West Indies to victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
