    George Sanders Facts

    1. He had a reputation for not signing autographs as well as disliking doing interviews to promote his films.
    2. In 1937, Sanders had confided in fellow British actor that he would commit suicide in old age. His premonition came true as he ended his life in 1972 after suffering from dementia and depression during the last years of his life.
    3. The year 1967 was extremely difficult for him as he lost his mother Margaret Sanders, his then-wife Benita Hume, as well as his brother Tom Conway within a span of 12 months.
    4. His brother Tom changed his last name from Sanders to Conway in order to avoid getting confused with George. Interestingly, he picked his last name by simply dialing a random number that got him connected to Conway’s fish market.
    5. The 1972 song Celluloid Heroes by The Kinks makes a passing reference to him. The lyrics read as “If you covered him in the garbage, George Sanders would still have style”.
