    Kermit Washington is an American former professional basketball player who had represented teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers (1973–1977), the Boston Celtics (1977–1978), the San Diego Clippers (1978–1979), the Portland Trail Blazers (1979–1982), and the Golden State Warriors (1987) in the NBA (National Basketball Association). He was drafted 5th overall in the 1st round of the 1973 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He was included in the annual ‘NBA All-Star Game’ in 1980, and the ‘NBA All-Defensive Second Team’ in both 1980 and 1981.

    1. When Kermit was 3 years old, his parents and his maternal uncle were involved in a scuffle where someone had violently attacked his uncle with an iron rod. His parents had parted ways soon after.
    2. Although his father was given custody of the children, his mother, suffering from bipolar disorder, had taken him and his older brother Eric away from their father. As his mother struggled to take care of the children, she had eventually returned them to their father. Kermit and his brother did not stay long with their father though as they were passed around to live with various relatives on both sides of the family.
    3. When he had finished his college basketball career at The American University in 1973, he was one of just 7 players in NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) history to have averaged 20 points and 20 rebounds throughout the course of their career. In the very last game of his college career, he had required 39 points to achieve this rare record. He went on to score 40 points in the match and there was a campus-wide celebration after the game. In the last 2 years of his college career (1972, 1973), he was the rebounding leader in the NCAA.
    4. In 1977, he had punched an opposition player named Rudy Tomjanovich during an on-court scuffle that had gone out of control. The fight had left Rudy battling severe injuries which had nearly proved fatal.
