- She made her acting debut in the film The First Day of the Twentieth Year in 1983.
- In 2012, Kim Hee-ae was cast as Yoon Seo-rae in the romantic drama television series How Long I’ve Kissed. This won her the 49th Baeksang Arts Award in the “Best Actress (TV)” category.
- She played Hyun-sook, a widowed single mother who is raising 2 teenage daughters while working at a big grocery store, in the 2014 drama film Thread of Lies. This marked Kim Hee-ae’s return to the big screen after a 21-year absence.
- She was one of 30 Catholic celebrities who appeared in the 2014 music video for the digital single titled Koinonia to commemorate ‘s visit to South Korea. It was the first time in 19 years that the pope visited Asia.
