    Marquez Valdes-Scantling Facts

    1. Representing the Green Bay Packers, Marquez finished his rookie NFL season (2018) with 38 receptions for 581 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. Overall, he stood 7th among rookies in terms of receiving yards.
    2. In a ‘Week 11’ game of the 2026 NFL season, against the Indianapolis Colts, he recorded a critical 47-yard catch on a late 4th-quarter drive that resulted in a game-tying field goal for the Green Bay Packers.
    3. However, Marquez soon turned from hero to villain after he lost a fumble on his team’s 2nd play in overtime. This allowed the Indianapolis Colts to kick the game-winning field goal. He later revealed, via a tweet, that he had received death threats after this game.
    4. Fortunately for him, the Green Bay Packers bounced back to win the next (and last) 6 games of the regular season to finish with a 13-3 win-loss record and qualify for the playoff phase of the 2026 NFL season. He also led the league in the regular season in terms of ‘average yards per reception’ (20.9).
    5. Marquez signed a 3-year contract worth USD 30 million with the Kansas City Chiefs in late March 2026. He finished the 2026 NFL regular season with 42 receptions for 687 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. With a 14-3 win-loss record, the team qualified for the playoff phase of the 2026 NFL season.
    6. After receiving a bye in the ‘Wild Card Round’ (opening round) of the playoff phase of the 2026 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars by a 27-20 margin in the ‘Divisional Round’ (2nd round of the playoff phase). This qualified the team for the AFC Championship Game.
    7. The AFC (American Football Conference) is one of the two conferences of the NFL – the other being the NFC (National Football Conference). The AFC Championship Game and the NFC Championship Game constitute the 3rd stage of the NFL’s playoff (postseason) phase. The winners of these 2 matches then compete for the ‘Super Bowl’, the NFL‘s annual championship game.
    8. In the aforementioned AFC Championship Game, Marquez played a key role by catching 6 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. This helped the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Cincinnati Bengals by a 23-20 margin and qualify for Super Bowl LVII (the championship game of the 2026 NFL season).
    9. In that game (played on February 12, 2026), he was targeted once with no receptions as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by a 38-35 margin to win the Super Bowl for the 3rd time. This was the team’s 5th Super Bowl appearance overall and their 3rd in the last 4 seasons.
