- Her parents moved to the United States in the 70s as they fled the revolution in their native Iran.
- While growing up, she was often bullied because of her freckles, which others kids used to tell her was a sign of disease. She was also called mental mouth because of her buck teeth.
- Her interest in acting was sparked by her acting gig in the role of Cha-Cha DiGregorio in the school production of Grease while studying in 7th grade. The acting gigs in school productions also did wonders for her shattered confidence.
- She decided to study acting at UCLA on the advice of her high school drama teacher.
