    1. Her love for tennis came naturally to her as she was raised in a family that loved the sport. So much so that she was named after former top-20 player Naoko Sawamatsu, and her brother is named after Shuzo Matsuoka.
    2. At a young age, Nao dreamt of playing on the Centre Court of Wimbledon.
    3. Nao and her brother were introduced to tennis when she was 10, by their mother.
    4. At the age of 14, Nao began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit in January 2009. In March 2009, Nao made her debut at the Grade 1 Japan Open in Nagoya.
    5. At the age of 17, Nao began playing at the ITF Women’s Circuit in May 2012.
    6. She relocated to Kobe, Japan in 2015, to further training.
    7. On January 11, 2016, she was ranked as the number-one Japanese player in the WTA rankings for five weeks and reached the position again on April 3, 2026.
    8. In her free time, Nao enjoys spending time with her family and reading.
    9. She has pet dogs.
