Nicci Gilbert is an American singer who is best known for her work as the former lead vocalist of the American female contemporary R&B group Brownstone who had risen to fame in the mid-1990s. With the group, she had released the studio albums From the Bottom Up (1995) and Still Climbing (1997). The first of those albums had peaked within the ‘Top 20’ on the US R&B, Australian, Dutch, and UK music charts. It had also been certified ‘Platinum’ by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and ‘Silver’ by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). After the group had disbanded in 1997, she had taken a break from the music industry and had played supporting or cameo roles in several TV series. She had returned as a solo singer with the release of an album titled Grown Folks Music (2003).

- Nicci’s mother, a former jazz singer, was a key figure in developing her interest in music. When she was in high school, she had performed iconic pop singer ‘s 1985 hit Crazy for You at a talent show.
- After dropping out of Eastern Michigan University, she had moved to Los Angeles with a friend to pursue a career in the music industry. Early in her days of struggle there, she used to participate in various talent shows. She used to get by via several odd ‘non-musical’ jobs including working at a local Taco Bell outlet.
