    Somy Ali attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Karachi until she was 11 years old. After moving back to Florida in 1999, Somy attained her GED before going on to pursue a major in psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida from she obtained her undergraduate degree in two years.

    She then pursued her master’s degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Miami but decided to quit and instead enrolled at New York Film Academy where she attained a degree in filmmaking, direction, screenwriting, and editing.

    In 2004, Somy obtained a certification in broadcast journalism from Florida’s Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

    1. She was born into a well-to-do family of Pakistani heritage.
    2. Somy Ali moved to South Florida with her mother and brother at the age of 11.
    3. During her teenage years, Somy had a huge crush on Indian Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
    4. Despite her privileged lifestyle, while growing up, Somy went through a tough time. Between the age of 5 and 9, she was molested by the people that worked at her home in Karachi. Later, when Somy relocated to Florida, she was bullied by her peers and even raped by a neighborhood boy when she was 14. Aside from that, Somy also witnessed her mother fall victim to domestic violence while they lived in Pakistan.
    5. During her early teenage years, Somy got hooked on a drug called acid, hence, influencing her decision to drop out of school. During that time, she fell victim to the beatings of drug addicts.
    6. At the age of 16, Somy decided to try and convince her father and mother to relocate to Mumbai, Maharashtra. However, her mother did not agree to her decision but it was her father who agreed to send her there where she began working as a model and also took on various Hindi film projects. Between 1991 and 1998, she appeared in 10 films.
    7. She is the founder and president of No More Tears in Miami, Florida.
    8. Her work with No More Tears has earned her the American Heritage Award from the American Immigration Council, The Daily Point of Light Award on April 15, 2015, by President , and The National Domestic Violence Month “A Proclamation” by President .
    9. After graduating from the New York Film Academy, she worked on several projects which included short films on abortion, domestic violence, and teenage suicide.
