- She was raised in Mymensingh by a Bengali Muslim family.
- While in college, she would write and edit poetry for a journal called Shenjuti. Upon graduating, Nasrin had begun working at a family planning clinic in her hometown. Then, she went on to practice gynecology at the department of Mitford hospital and even worked at the anesthesia department of Dhaka Medical College hospital.
- Taslima is an atheist and feminist despite being born into a Muslim family. It is said that her views were influenced by what she saw while working in the medical industry, especially seeing girls who had been raped and women crying in despair when they gave birth to a girl child.
- She wrote poetry from 1982 and 1993, which was based on female oppression.
- In 1993, Nasrin published the documentary novel Lajja which translates to “Shame”. In the novel, she wrote about how a Hindu family was being attacked by Muslim fanatics. This led to an uproar in the Muslim community resulting in her being attacked physically and also getting offered a bounty for her death by the Council of Islamic Soldiers. People also demanded that she be executed. During that time, she went into hiding for 2 months before finally exiting the country and relocating to Sweden in 1994 and lived in exile between Sweden, Germany, France, and the United States.
- Taslima has been banished from the Bengal region (both from Bangladesh and the West Bengal state of India).
- In 2004, Taslima moved back to India but 4 years later she was banished from the country.
- In February 2026, Taslima accused Delhi’s Apollo Hospital of forcing her to undergo INR 7.4 lakh hip replacement surgery. She was told by a qualified and 3-decade experienced surgeon that she had a hip fracture but didn’t show her the X-Ray or CT scan. She was, however, admitted to the hospital for hip fixation on the late night of January 13, 2026, but on January 14’s morning, she was forced to undergo a total hip replacement. She accused the hospital that she was not given any time to think, to take 2nd opinion, or at least consult with her friends and family.
